Job description

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the professional staff, the Patient Care Assistant is responsible for providing patient care and performing certain non-complex duties related to patient care and unit functioning. The assistant supports staff by assisting with clerical duties and delivering patient care to varied age groups, ensuring a calm, caring, and clean environment.

Essential Functions:

  1. Perform assigned tasks including vital signs, intake and output measurements, glucose monitoring, specimen collection, and documentation.
  2. Complete phlebotomy and EKG procedures within 6 months of training.
  3. Follow treatment plans and collaborate with licensed personnel to deliver safe, appropriate, and quality patient care.
  4. Ensure patient comfort and satisfaction with services.
  5. Assist with patient mobility, including turning, positioning, transferring, and ambulation, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices.
  6. Provide safe, appropriate, and quality patient care, communicating changes in patient conditions and unit concerns to the team.
  7. Perform 1:1 watches as assigned.
  8. Order and restock supplies within budgetary limits.
  9. Maintain knowledge of equipment to ensure safety.
  10. Participate in unit-based performance improvement initiatives.
  11. Assist in orienting and educating new staff.
  12. Transfer and move patients of all age groups using wheelchairs, beds, or stretchers.
  13. Respect patient rights to privacy and dignity, maintaining confidentiality.
  14. Perform clerical duties related to patients, including updating logs, entering charges, and maintaining unit statistics.
Schedule

Three 12-hour shifts per week from 7:00 pm to 7:30 am, with modified self-scheduling, including 4 weekend shifts in 6 weeks and every third holiday.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, provided by Grand View Health.
