Job summary

Washington University in St. Louis in Saint Louis, MO, is seeking a patient services assistant for the front desk.

You will answer calls, schedule appointments, check patients in and out, and help with reminders while obtaining insurance information and guiding patients to financial assistance options. The role requires a high school diploma, Basic Life Support certification within one month of hire, and strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Responsibilities

  • Answers incoming calls and makes outgoing calls to schedule appointments and/or triage concerns.
  • Performs the duties of front desk by checking in and out appointments and scheduling follow-up appointments.
  • Obtains insurance information from patients and counsels alternative ways for financial assistance.
  • Registers all new patients and assists with form completion.
  • Reviews schedule for new patients and makes updates when necessary.
  • Calls patients with appointment time reminders; obtains insurance information and referral forms.
  • Assists patients with insurance questions regarding the billing process.
  • Assists staff with sending out reminder cards and other scheduling duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
