Role Overview

A Patient Advocate assists patients in navigating the healthcare system. The role involves coordinating directly with patients in a hospital setting to provide support, communicating with agencies, hospital staff, and others to advocate on behalf of self-pay and underinsured patients.

Sheffield, AL 35660

Shift

Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Assist patients with forms, applications, and paperwork.
  2. Review patient information to determine eligibility.
  3. Prepare and review documents for accuracy.
  4. Provide technical assistance on agency issues, services, and programs.
  5. Maintain and create files or record-keeping systems.
  6. Interact with patients to provide support and address concerns.
  7. Develop and maintain professional relationships with hospital staff.
  8. Handle caseloads, generate reports, and communicate findings.
  9. Maintain confidentiality and comply with EMTALA and HIPAA guidelines.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications
  1. At least 1 year of experience in healthcare, medical insurance, hospital, or clinic settings.
  2. High School diploma or GED required; associate degree or higher is a plus.
  3. Ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse environment.
  4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  5. Excellent communication skills.
  6. Ability to travel locally to other sites.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Projects).
  8. Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare processes.

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly rate: $21.00 – $24.00, based on experience and qualifications.
