Job summary

Cognizant seeks a Patient Advocate in Riverdale, GA to assess and act on eligibility for Medicaid and related programs. You’ll work with patient demographics, medical status, and program criteria to determine eligibility and coordinate care within hospital settings.

The role requires 1–3 years of experience, Saturday–Wednesday shifts, and 3 weeks of training. You will travel locally and maintain confidentiality while collaborating with hospital staff.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Patient Advocate – Riverdale, GA

Location: Riverdale, GA

Schedule: Saturday – Wednesday, 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM

Training: 3 weeks of required training

Start Date: 9/28

Experience: 1 to 3 years

Job Summary

The Patient Advocate is a vital role in hospitals and medical centers, responsible for assessing, communicating, and acting upon potential eligibility determinations. This includes evaluating patient demographics, household composition, financial holdings, medical status, and specific program criteria to secure Medicaid, Social Security, and insurance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and review patient information to determine eligibility.
  • Prepare documents and review them for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide technical assistance to clients and patients.
  • Create and maintain files.
  • Ensure accurate documentation is maintained.
  • Manage caseloads efficiently.
  • Maintain and update the database, including documentation within Epic.
  • Develop and retain professional relationships with hospital staff.
  • Maintain and respect patient confidentiality.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and EMTALA laws.
  • Work effectively with diverse groups of people, demonstrating effective communication, organization, and time management.
  • Will be required to travel locally.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Insurance and medical documentation with patients.
Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of Medicaid eligibility and programs required.
  • Experience with the Epic electronic health record system required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Medicaid required

Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is between $20.00 – $22.00 per hour, depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
