Job summary

Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists in Spokane, WA is seeking a Patient Accounts Specialist to support self-pay accounts receivable, answer billing inquiries, follow up on outstanding balances, and help patients understand payment options. You will prepare cost estimates for procedures, post payments to patient accounts, and help ensure accurate records while maintaining HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least one year of prior medical billing or surgery estimating experience.
• Experience with healthcare information systems such as EHR and practice management is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create cost estimates for procedures based on insurance information and obtain payment from patients.
• Post insurance and patient payments to accounts in a timely manner.
• Identify and elevate delinquent or problem accounts as needed.
• Provide excellent patient service and handle inquiries professionally.
• Identify refunds and overpayments and process refunds per policy.
• Review aging reports and initiate collection actions for unpaid balances.
• Escalate complaints to appropriate department as needed.
• Meet department performance metrics for quality and productivity.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
