Job summary

Survival Flight is seeking a detail-oriented Patient Account Representative to manage patient accounts from initial billing through final resolution. You will work with insurance carriers, patients, and internal teams to resolve claims in compliance with regulations and company policies.

The role requires experience in medical accounts receivable, collections, or ambulance billing, and a commitment to accuracy and exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in accounts receivable, medical billing, or collections.
  • Knowledge of air ambulance industry billing is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patient accounts through the full revenue cycle to resolution.
  • Investigate denied or unpaid claims and submit reconsiderations/appeals.
  • Follow up with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers for outstanding claims.
  • Work with attorneys on lien resolution and negotiated reductions when needed.
  • Ensure billing activities comply with HIPAA and state/federal requirements.

Our Patient Financial Services team plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, ethical, and compliant billing practices while delivering outstanding customer service to patients, insurance carriers, and healthcare partners.

We're looking for a detail-oriented Patient Account Representative who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys solving complex billing challenges. Position Summary

The Patient Account Representative is responsible for managing patient accounts from initial billing through final resolution. This role works closely with insurance companies, attorneys, patients, and internal departments to resolve claims efficiently while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, payer requirements, and Survival Flight's policies and Code of Conduct.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Manage patient accounts through the full revenue cycle, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
  • Investigate and resolve denied or unpaid claims by submitting reconsiderations, appeals, and supporting documentation.
  • Follow up with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance carriers, managed care organizations, auto insurance carriers, and workers' compensation payers regarding outstanding claims.
  • Work with attorneys on lien resolution, settlements, and negotiated reductions when applicable.
  • Re-submit claims as required to meet payer filing guidelines.
  • Collect outstanding balances from patients, insurance carriers, and clients while maintaining exceptional customer service.
  • Manage accounts in accordance with the No Surprises Act, including Open Negotiation and Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) requirements for out-of-network claims.
  • Maintain accurate account documentation within billing software and patient records.
  • Ensure all billing activities comply with company policies, HIPAA, state regulations, and all applicable federal healthcare program requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve workflows and support departmental goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounts receivable, medical billing, or collections experience
  • Knowledge of the air ambulance industry and air medical billing requirements
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Medicare
    • Medicaid
    • AHCCCS
    • Managed Care
    • Commercial Insurance
    • Auto Insurance
    • Workers' Compensation
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 diagnosis coding
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding customer service and telephone etiquette
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
  • Experience navigating medical billing software and electronic account management systems
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous ambulance or air ambulance billing experience
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish preferred)
