Job summary

PHI Health, based in Phoenix, AZ, seeks a diligent medical billing professional to manage credit balances, payer communications, and refund processing. The role supports accurate postings, appeals, and refunds across payer networks within a dynamic, safety-conscious environment.

Qualified candidates have 5+ years in medical billing/collections, strong MS Office and billing software skills, and a focus on detail and accuracy. Some college preferred; a pre-employment drug screen may be required.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed high school diploma (or GED equivalent) and have a minimum of 5 years of medical billing/collections experience
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and medical billing software
  • Experience with email and internet usage
  • Data analysis and/or payment processing experience preferred
  • Detail oriented with multi-tasking ability
  • Solid understanding of accounts receivable and payment posting
  • Some college preferred
  • Ability to pass pre-placement drug test and background screen
  • Safety Sensitive per Arizona Medical Marijuana Act

Responsibilities

  • Research credit balance accounts and notify payers.
  • Review contractual and allowable adjustments.
  • Follow up with payers and patients for correct addresses.
  • Prepare refund packets for payers and patients.
  • Call insurance companies about refund requests to obtain needed information.
  • Review accounts for proper posting of payments.
  • Prepare refund spreadsheet for executive review.
  • Call patients or estates to verify refund address.

Job Summary
  • Research credit balance accounts to determine proper balance and credit notification to payers.
  • Research and review of proper contractual and allowable adjustments.
  • Follow up with payers and patients for proper address and payee addresses.
  • Prepare refund packets to payers and patients.
  • Call insurance companies regarding refund requests with the ability to obtain additional information.
  • Review accounts for proper posting of payments.
  • Prepare approved refund spreadsheet for executive review and approval.
  • Call patients and/or estates to determine proper refund address and verification.

The Successful Candidate Will Have
  • Must have completed high school diploma (or GED equivalent) and have a minimum of 5 years of previous experience in medical billing/collections with a progressive increase in complexity and responsibilities
  • Must have knowledge of general office procedures using office equipment
  • Must have PC skills and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and medical billing software
  • Must have prior experience with email and using the internet
  • Knowledge in (experienced preferred) data analysis and or payment processing.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task.
  • Proficient in understanding accounts receivable and or have an extensive background in payment posting.
  • Some college preferred
  • Must be able to pass a pre-placement drug test and background screen
  • This position is designated Safety Sensitive for purposes of the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act.
