Saint Joseph Hospital - Elgin is seeking an energetic Patient Account Registrar for evening and night shifts. The role involves interviewing patients or representatives to gather demographic information and securing insurance details, eligibility, benefits, and authorizations as applicable.

You will coordinate with Admitting, PBX, and reception, and input data accurately. You will interact with a diverse patient population, using age-appropriate communication, and maintain medical terminology

Responsibilities

The Patient Account Registrar interviews the patient or his/her representative to obtain patient demographics. This position also secures insurance information, eligibility, benefits and authorizations as applicable. Works closely with all facets of the Admitting department including PBX operator function and reception areas. Must be able to operate a computer to input and retrieve data. Ability to communicate with the population served, utilizing age specific techniques from neonatal, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle adult to geriatrics. Maintain proficiency in medical terminology. Special projects or other assignments may be given with expectations to be completed in a specified timeframe

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Previous hospital experience as an admissions representative preferred.

2. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

3. Effective written and verbal communication skills

4. Ability to multi-task, prioritize needs to meet required timelines

5. Analytical and problem-solving skills

6. Customer Services experience required

7. High School Graduate or GED Equivalent Required (effective 4/1/14 for all new hires)

Pay Transparency

Saint Joseph Hospital - Elgin offers competitive compensation and a reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $20.34. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
