Patient Account Associate II Credit Balance and Account Review

Job Profile Summary

Provides extraordinary care to our customers through friendly, courteous, and professional service by demonstrating a broad understanding of account handling processes, exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to resolve complex issues in a timely and accurate manner.

Essential Functions

  1. Identifies appropriate payment details and saves backup documentation as appropriate.
  2. Researches, validates, and makes adjustments to payment postings; follows up according to procedures and policies with the goal of account resolution.
  3. Utilizes resources to find payment documentation and interprets payer contracts to ensure all codes on the patient's account match the contracts.
  4. Initiates payer recoupments, refunds, and patient refunds where applicable, with follow-up in accordance with procedures and policies.
  5. Navigates various payer claim portals and understands payer functionalities.
  6. Interacts effectively with others through oral and written communication.
  7. Operates computers and office equipment, including various software applications.
  8. Reads and interprets computer monitors and documents in English.
  9. Trains new and existing associates.

  • Possesses advanced knowledge of revenue cycle management and health insurance payers.
  • Reads and understands payer contracts.
  • Has advanced knowledge of Coordination of Benefits and EOBs.
  • Identifies trends related to payer behavior, system or workflow issues, and escalates appropriately.
  • Possesses advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Handles payments accurately.
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Assists leadership with mentoring peers and new hires.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Two (2)+ years of experience in hospital or physician insurance activities (Billing & Follow-Up) required.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid and Medicare billing regulations required.
  • Epic systems experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Effective communication, both orally and in writing.
  • Operate computers and office equipment, requiring manual dexterity.
  • Read computer monitors and documents.
  • Remain sitting or standing for extended periods.
  • May require lifting, bending, kneeling, and reaching.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

The hourly rate ranges from $18.81 to $26.65, depending on experience.
