Job summary

MultiCare Valley Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Technician to ensure accurate admissions and streamlined registration processes. This intermediate-level clerical role emphasizes service orientation, judgment and independent thinking in daily tasks.

The position supports inpatient and ambulatory admissions, with emphasis on accurate data capture, bed assignments, and timely notifications to other departments. A health vocational program or related experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a health vocational program such as Patient Access, Medical Billing & Insurance.
• One year of experience performing admitting, Health Unit Coordinator, patient registration, customer service or billing duties; healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assure complete and accurate patient admissions/registrations according to policy and procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Obtain inpatient bed assignments and process admission, including arm banding, addressograph plate, and forms.
• Pre-admit all scheduled inpatient, outpatients and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth admission/registration.
• Obtain direct admit information and enter a reservation to notify other areas.
• Conduct bedside or telephone interviews to obtain demographic, insurance and third-party information.
• Perform eligibility verification and resolve discrepancies; refer to Financial Counselor when needed.

• You will assure complete and accurate patient admissions/registrations according to organization policy and procedures and regulatory requirements
• You will obtain inpatient bed assignments and processes inpatient admission, including arm banding, addressograph plate, and completion of necessary forms
• You will pre-admit all scheduled inpatient, outpatients and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth and speedy admission/registration process
• You will obtain direct admit information and enter a reservation in the computer system in order to notify other areas
• You will complete comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with the patient, relative, or their representative to obtain pertinent demographic insurance and/or third-party liability information
• You will perform eligibility verification and resolves any discrepancies, determine the need for financial assistance recommendation and application, referring to the Financial Counselor where necessary

Requirements

• Graduate of a health vocational program such as Patient Access, Medical Assistance Medical Billing & Insurance

OR

• One (1) year of experience performing any combination of admitting, Health Unit Coordinator, patient registration, customer service or billing duties required; healthcare setting preferred

Pay and Benefit Expectations

• We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off.
• The pay scale is $21.07 - $31.60 USD.
• However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant's years of experience align.
