Patient Access Supervisor ED 7:00 to 3:30 Mon-Fri Every Other Weekend

Job Description

The Supervisor of Patient Access oversees the daily registration functions within Patient Access's scope of work. Ensures the operational unit is staffed appropriately. Promotes a positive patient experience for patients and families. Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills when interacting with staff, patients, families, and leadership. Supervises efficient and compliant registration processes, ensuring regulatory and compliance requirements are met, including adherence to departmental and institutional protocols. Prioritizes responsibilities to complete daily work requirements, resolves departmental and patient problems as needed, and monitors key performance metrics to ensure goals are achieved.

The Supervisor will also:

  1. Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with Jefferson's values.
  2. Maintain staffing schedules, including timely responses to time-off requests, manage resources to cover vacancies with minimal or no overtime, and ensure smooth department operations.
  3. Manage on-site operations such as MyTime payroll & attendance, downtime support, and deposit reconciliation, while adhering to project deadlines and budgets.
  4. Respond to patient complaints or stakeholder concerns and identify process improvements.
  5. Participate in interviewing and hiring, and oversee onboarding and training of new staff.
  6. Provide constructive feedback, escalate issues promptly, and appraise staff performance, including conducting annual evaluations.
  7. Demonstrate professionalism and foster a positive attitude within the department.
  8. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and departmental protocols.
  9. Achieve individual and team performance metrics and complete quality assurance reviews.

Education:

Associate's degree in healthcare or business administration required, or a minimum of 5 years relevant healthcare experience if lacking a degree. Bachelor's degree and HFMA certifications preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of patient registration experience and 3 years of supervisory experience in healthcare settings.

Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office, and familiar with healthcare EHR systems like EPIC and Cerner.

Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Knowledge of insurance coverage, authorizations/referrals, and coverage requirements.

Strong leadership, interpersonal, quality assurance, and critical thinking skills.
