Job summary

Emerus Holdings, Inc. is seeking a part‑time Night Shift (7p–7a) Specialist to support patient registration and insurance verification, ensuring accurate demographics and timely revenue‑cycle processing in a fast‑paced 10‑bed ED setting.

You will liaise with patients, families, payers, and hospital staff to secure financial responsibility and maximize hospital reimbursement, while maintaining compliance and exceptional customer service.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2 years’ patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
  • Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
  • Fluency in English; written and oral communication required.
  • Fluency in both English & Spanish is a requirement in the El Paso Market.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and verify demographic information on all accounts to facilitate revenue‑cycle processing.
  • Verify insurance benefits for all plans and confirm payor/plan entry in the patient accounting system.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans where applicable.
  • Pursue collections at the time of service in a customer‑service oriented manner.
  • Scan all registration and clinical documentation into the system and maintain records.
  • Coordinate transfer of patients to other hospitals when necessary.
  • Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals.
  • Maintain a cash drawer and logs; keep visitor/vendor log.
  • Attend staff meetings and assist medical staff as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

SHIFT: Night shift (7p-7a). JOB TYPE: Part‑time. LOCATION: Rigsby. FACILITY TYPE: 10‑bed Emergency Department.

Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to serve as a liaison between patient/family, payers, Patient Financial Services, and other health care team members. The specialist facilitates patient tracking and billing by obtaining and verifying accurate and complete demographic information, securing financial responsibility from guarantors, and collecting out‑of‑pocket amounts to maximize hospital reimbursement.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all applicable hospital and government regulations related to admissions and medical records.
  • Provide excellent customer service by effectively meeting patient needs, building quality relationships, and understanding customers.
  • Play a role in protecting patient safety by ensuring each patient is properly identified and triaged upon arrival.
  • Answer telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner, record messages, and communicate to appropriate medical staff.
  • Obtain and secure signatures on required forms and consents.
  • Obtain, verify, and enter complete and accurate demographic information on all accounts to facilitate smooth revenue‑cycle processing.
  • Verify insurance benefits for all plans associated with the patient, confirming correct payor and plan entry into the patient accounting system.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations as required by individual insurance plans where applicable.
  • Maximize efficiency and accuracy of the collection process by pursuing collections at the time of service in a customer‑service‑oriented manner.
  • Scan all registration and clinical documentation into the system and maintain all medical records.
  • Assist with coordinating the transfer of patients to other hospitals when necessary.
  • Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals.
  • Maintain cash drawer in accordance with policies.
  • Maintain a log of all patients, payments received, transfers, and hospital admissions.
  • Maintain visitor/vendor log.
Other Job Functions
  • Maintain a clean working environment for the facility, including the front desk, restroom, waiting room, break area, and patient rooms when assistance is needed by medical staff.
  • Receive deliveries, including mail, from various carriers and forward to appropriate departments as needed.
  • Notify appropriate contact of any malfunctioning equipment or maintenance needs.
  • Attend staff meetings or other company‑sponsored or mandated meetings as required.
  • Assist medical staff as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
