Responsibilities

The Patient Access Specialist manages all inpatient and outpatient access functions within their assigned areas. Responsibilities include conducting quality interviews, verifying patient identity and demographics, screening Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care patients, obtaining necessary consents, scheduling, bed planning, insurance verification, pre-certification, cash collection, and ensuring compliance with quality standards to deliver a positive patient experience.

  • Greet patients and visitors courteously in person and by phone.
  • Implement scheduling, pre-registration, pre-certification, referral procurement, and insurance verification policies.
  • Maintain patient safety by adhering to identification policies and avoiding duplicate records.
  • Coordinate patient check-in, bed assignments, and ensure proper patient placement and status.
  • Perform insurance verification, obtain pre-authorizations, and assist with upfront collections.
  • Provide administrative support, including documentation, scheduling, and communication with patients and providers.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including obtaining signatures on required forms.
  • Participate in department activities, including shift rotations, training, and process improvements.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree or related experience.
  • 1+ years hospital or patient financial services experience.
  • Knowledge of insurance, ICD10, CPT4 codes, and Epic systems.
  • Bilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish, Korean).

Certifications: Completion of EPIC Cadence and Prelude training within 30 days of network access.
