Compensation Range: The base pay scale for this position is $31.29 - $34.81. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role.

What you will be doing

The Patient Access Specialist (PAS) I is a highly visible customer service position that is responsible for scheduling, pre-registration, and registration of patients in person and by phone using the Epic system. The PAS I is an entry-level multifaceted position that works with interdisciplinary team members in the management of patient flow. The PAS I spends most of the day completing repetitive core PAS tasks for one or more functional areas and meets standard productivity and quality expectations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service to all patients, visitors, and customers.
  • Interview patients and accurately enter and update patient demographics, personal information, and medical history.
  • Collect and scan legal IDs, insurance cards, signed consent forms, third party liability documents, and advance care plans.
  • Obtain electronic and/or phone benefit verifications, coordinating benefits, determining participating and non-participating insurance coverage.
  • Collect co-payments and out of pocket payments.
  • Manage bed placement by coordinating bed assignment for post-op surgical patients and emergency admissions.
  • Resolve patient checklists and work queue encounters.
  • Answer incoming calls and provide assistance by addressing inquiries or directing callers to the appropriate department for further support.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
  • Cover Greeter/Welcome desk.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), may include specialized or vocational courses.
  • Minimum 1 year in a healthcare or related customer service field.

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bed Management experience (highly desired).
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in office automated tools: e-mail, outlook, and data entry.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of healthcare and health insurance.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Displays positive attitudes towards assignments and others.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and calculate percentages.
