Patient Access Specialist - FT Day shift

Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to serve as a liaison between patient/family, payers, Patient Financial Services, and other healthcare team members. You will facilitate patient tracking and billing by obtaining/verifying accurate demographic information, securing financial responsibilities, and collecting out-of-pocket payments from guarantors to maximize hospital reimbursement.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA, and other applicable hospital and government regulations.
  • Provide excellent customer service by effectively meeting customer needs and building quality relationships.
  • Ensure proper patient identification and triage upon arrival to promote patient safety.
  • Answer calls professionally, record messages, and communicate with medical staff.
  • Obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
  • Verify and enter accurate demographic and insurance information to facilitate smooth revenue cycle processing.
  • Verify insurance benefits and obtain authorizations as needed.
  • Pursue collections at the time of service in a customer-oriented manner.
  • Scan and maintain all medical records and documentation.
  • Assist with patient transfers and respond to medical record requests.
  • Maintain cash drawer and logs of patients, payments, transfers, and admissions.
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience preferred.
  • Experience in Emergency Department registration strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) required.
  • Basic medical terminology understanding.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
  • Fluency in English; bilingual in English & Spanish required for the El Paso Market.
Additional Information
