Qualifications

  • 1 year of Health Care experience required in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
  • Medical terminology preferred.
  • Knowledge of health care insurance and managed care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the patient registration flow by gathering patient demographic and third-party information with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service to establish positive relationships with patients, families and co-workers.
  • Explain and deploy legal, ethical and compliance-related documents at the time of registration.
  • Maintain knowledge of HIPAA, JCAHO, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, and payer policies.

Summary

Registration is a twenty-four (24) hour seven (7) day a week operation functioning as the nucleus of accurate patient information, with direct public interface and timely service, therefore, the Patient Access Specialist must be detail oriented, personable, calm, flexible, honest, and capable of handling difficult situations with tact and diplomacy. The Patient Access Specialist provides access to services provided at the hospital and/or clinic. This position is primarily responsible to facilitate the patient registration flow by gathering patient demographic and third-party information with a high degree of accuracy. This position requires a high level of customer service skills to establish and enhance positive relationships with patients, co-workers and families. Critical to this position is understanding the revenue cycle and the importance of evaluating and securing all appropriate financial resources for patients to maximize reimbursement to CCMC. This position also requires timely completion, preparation, and deployment of legal, ethical and compliance related documents that must be presented and thoroughly explained to the patient at the time of registration. The PAS is responsible for maintaining a sound knowledge of JCAHO, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, HIPAA, HMOs, PPOs, Commercial Payors, and departmental/System policies and procedures. Maintain knowledge of all tasks performed in the various Patient Access Service areas is necessary to provide optimum internal and external customer satisfaction. This position does not provide patient care but may be performed in a patient care area.


Education & Experience


  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • Ability to type, spell, write or print legibly with general knowledge of personal computers required.

Hours

Saturday, Sunday, and Monday: 6:00am to 6:30pm
