Job Summary

Responsible for a wide range of duties to support departmental efficiencies, including registration, patient pre-admission and admission, reception, discharge functions, arranging hospital services through referrals, analyzing admission/discharge transfers (ADT), Revenue Cycle Reports, leading shift Patient Access Operations, and collaborating with department leaders on process and operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greeting patients per Conifer Standards of Care, providing excellent customer service, completing full patient registration, explaining and securing legal forms, scanning Protected Health Information, creating patient information packets, and assisting with scheduling procedures and conducting interviews.
  • Providing financial counseling, education, and referrals; managing patient liability collections; performing cash reconciliation and secured payment entry.
  • Verifying medical necessity and insurance benefits; obtaining authorizations; securing inpatient visit notifications; analyzing ADT and Revenue Cycle Reports; leading shift operations; collaborating with department leaders.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Typing skills of at least 35 wpm.
  • Knowledge of hospital software and systems.
  • Excellent customer service, communication skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of third-party payor requirements and compliance standards.
  • Ability to perform in multiple Patient Access service areas including ED.

Education / Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2-4 years experience in medical facility or health insurance; 2+ years in Patient Access preferred.
  • Some college coursework preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Sitting at a computer for extended periods; lifting up to 25 lbs occasionally; frequent standing, sitting, walking; assisting patients with mobility.

Work Environment

  • Hospital setting with potential exposure to life-threatening conditions.

Other

  • Availability to work hours/days as needed; resolving physician and patient issues; managing high patient volumes.
