Job summary

Jefferson Health in Cherry Hill, New Jersey is seeking a Patient Access Representative to support outpatient registration and the Emergency Department. You will collect demographic and insurance information, verify eligibility, obtain photo IDs, and ensure referrals and authorizations are on file.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; associates preferred.
• 3+ years hospital/healthcare customer service experience.
• Prior Jefferson Seamless Access experience within 1 year acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients and visitors in alignment with Jefferson's values.
• Gathers demographic information to identify existing medical records or assign new numbers.
• Requests photo ID and insurance cards; scans copies.
• Records complete demographic and insurance data; enters orders and confirms medical necessity for outpatient visits.
• Interviews patients to complete the MSPQ for Medicare patients.
• Uses Real Time Eligibility and payer sites to verify coverage and benefits; secures referrals and authorizations as needed.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and departmental protocols.
• Communicates and collects out-of-pocket liability at the time of service.
• Rotates through all Patient Access points including Outpatient Registration and ED.

Job Description

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
• Gathers accurate demographic information to identify Jefferson patients who have an existing medical record number or new Jefferson patients who need a medical record number assigned.
• Requests photo ID and insurance cards, scanning copies.
• Records complete and accurate demographic and insurance information; enters orders and confirms medical necessity for outpatient visits, if appropriate. Interviews patients to accurately complete the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSPQ) questionnaire for all Medicare patients.
• Uses RTE (Real Time Eligibility), Phreesia or payer websites to verify patients’ insurance coverage and benefits including patient’s out of pocket liability. Ensures proper referral and authorizations are on file as needed.
• Completes all activities with adherence to departmental and institutional protocols.
• Assures regulatory and compliance requirements are met.
• Achieves individual and team performance metrics.
• Communicates and collects out-of-pocket liability from patients at the time of service.
• Rotates assignment to all points of service areas within Patient Access (Outpatient Registration and Emergency Department).

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Required: High School Diploma or GED; Associates degree in healthcare or business administration preferred.

Emergency Department: Minimum 3 years experience in hospital, physician practice, or related healthcare environment customer service. Prior registration experience in Emergency Dept preferred. Current Jefferson Seamless Access Representatives with a minimum of 1 year of experience will be considered as meeting the experience requirement.

Salary Range

$17.00 to $21.89 Hourly. The actual hiring rate will be determined based on candidate experience, skills and qualifications. This position is not eligible for an annual incentive.
