Schedule: Week 1: Friday & Saturday; Week 2: Sunday & Monday
Responsibilities
- Provide a positive patient experience to patients and families.
- Demonstrate strong communication and customer service skills while registering patients.
- Accurately search and select the correct patient and gather complete and accurate demographic and insurance information.
- Identify uninsured patients for referral to Medical Assistance/Charity Care evaluation.
- Retrieve orders, confirm medical necessity, and answer phones for outpatient visits.
- Collect worker’s compensation or auto insurance information from accident patients, gather patient out-of-pocket liability/copays, verify insurance, and confirm that referrals and authorizations are on file.
- Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Request photo ID and insurance cards, and scan copies.
- Record complete and accurate demographic and insurance information.
- Enter orders and confirm medical necessity for outpatient visits where appropriate.
- Interview patients to complete the Medicare Secondary Payer questionnaire for all Medicare patients.
- Use real‑time eligibility tools (RTE, Phreesia or payer websites) to verify coverage and benefits, including out‑of‑pocket liability.
- Ensure referrals and authorizations are on file as needed.
- Complete all activities in adherence to departmental and institutional protocols.
- Meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Achieve individual and team performance metrics.
- Communicate and collect out‑of‑pocket liability from patients at the time of service.
- Rotate assignments to all points of service areas within Patient Access (Outpatient Registration and Emergency Department).
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree in healthcare or business administration preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in hospital, physician practice, or another related healthcare environment in a customer service or registration role, preferably in an Emergency Department.
- Current Jefferson Seamless Access Representatives with a minimum of 1 year of experience will be considered as meeting the experience requirement.
- Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office, and familiar with healthcare EHR applications (EPIC, Cerner).
- Knowledge of medical terminology and third‑party insurance coverage, including managed care plans.
- Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
Salary
USD $17.00 to $21.89 per hour. Actual hiring rate will be based on candidate experience, skills, and qualifications. Position is not eligible for an annual incentive.
