Job summary

Sanford Health is seeking a Patient Access Representative to deliver exceptional patient service at the first point of contact, in-clinic or by phone. The role spans registration, scheduling, and basic financial interactions across multiple departments, with every-other-weekend shifts common.

The position emphasizes fast-paced patient support, accurate data capture, and coordinating care paths while maintaining a welcoming environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Post-secondary education helpful.
  • One year of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
  • Medical terminology helpful; customer service skills essential.
  • Six months' customer service experience desired.
  • May require BLS for certain locations and/or settings.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and verify demographics; create, scan, and route documents or forms.
  • Inform patients what documents are and capture signatures where needed.
  • Establish and assign financial responsibility; assist with arrangements per policies.
  • Collect co-payments, pre-payments, and payments on account balances.
  • Work through the registration work queue to address registration errors or denied claims.
  • Coordinate appointments with nursing team and providers; check referrals and pre-authorizations.
  • Arrange interpreter services; check patients in/out; operate multi-line phone.
  • Resolve queue issues, manage recall and waitlists, and assist as switchboard operator.

Gain diverse registration and patient access experience across multiple areas, including the Emergency Department, Main Admissions, Outpatient Infusion, Lab, and MB3. Shifts vary based on departmental needs, but every other weekend is required.

This position is ideal for those who enjoy a fast-paced environment and helping patients at every stage to build a versatile and highly-sought after skill set.

Job Description
REGISTRATION
  • Greet patients & verifies demographics
  • Creating, scanning & routing documents or electronic forms
  • Inform patients what the document is & capture signatures on necessary paperwork
  • Establishes and assigns financial responsibility and assists with arrangements while adhering to appropriate policies and procedures
  • Collects co-payments, pre-payments, and payments on account balances
  • May work through the registration work queue to address and resolve registration errors or denied insurance claims
SCHEDULING
  • Work with nursing team & providers to coordinate & schedule appointments to meet patient’s needs, coordinate provider schedule
  • Obtain and coordinate referrals & conduct pre-authorization
  • Arrange interpreter services
  • Check patients in/out
  • Operate multi-line phone
  • May resolve work queue issues, manage recall and waitlists, & serve as switchboard operator calling codes and paging providers
ADDITIONAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE
  • Preparation & coordination of charts
  • Organize supporting provider documents
  • Initiation & collaboration of patient financial assistance
  • Track patient visits & health information management on patient accounts
  • Compile, distribute, administer, and score assessmentsCoordination of Telemed appointments
  • Reminder calls for appointments
  • Hospital admission
  • Office duties, such as make copies or send faxes
