Job summary

UnitedHealth Group in Cobleskill, NY is seeking a Patient Access Representative to warmly welcome patients, collect demographics and insurance details, and ensure an outstanding first experience. You will confirm eligibility, enter data in real-time, and support pre-authorizations and scheduling prior to discharge.

The role requires onsite work with training 4–6 weeks, a valid driver’s license, and a 8:00am–4:30pm schedule on weekdays. A $2,000 sign-on bonus is available to external applicants.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year of customer service experience.
  • Ability to work onsite in Cobleskill, NY.
  • Work hours 8:00am–4:30pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Access to reliable transportation and a valid US driver’s license.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients and collect demographics and insurance information.
  • Enter and verify patient data in computer systems in real time.
  • Process referrals, pre-certifications, pre-determinations, and pre-authorization requirements.
  • Verify coverage and create price estimates / reverifications.
  • Collect co-pays and discuss out-of-pocket costs with patients.
  • Identify outstanding balances and assist in collections.
  • Coordinate appointments for patient services prior to discharge.
  • Respond to inquiries with compassion and professionalism.
  • Generate, review, and analyze patient data reports; follow up on discrepancies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of registration requirements across units.

The Patient Access Representative welcomes, greets, interviews patients and/or representatives in person or over the telephone to ensure their initial experience with the hospital is exceptional. The Patient Access Representative will also obtain the required demographic and insurance information to ensure proper billing/reimbursement to the hospital. Secure required signatures from patients and/or representatives to protect hospital's interests. Provides excellent patient experience for guests with a high level of professionalism.

We offer 4-6 weeks of on-the-job training. The hours of the training will be based on schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Communicates directly with patients and / or families either in person or on the phone to complete the registration process by collecting patient demographics, health information, and verifying insurance eligibility / benefits
  • Utilizes computer systems to enter access or verify patient data in real - time ensuring accuracy and completeness of information
  • Gathers necessary clinical information and processes referrals, pre-certification, pre-determinations, and pre-authorizes according to insurance plan requirements
  • Verifies insurance coverage, benefits, and creates price estimates, reverifications as needed
  • Collects patient co-pays as appropriate and conducts conversations with patients on their out-of-pocket financial obligations
  • Identifies outstanding balances from patient's previous visits and attempts to collect any amount due
  • Responsible for collecting data directly from patients and referring to provider offices to confirm and create scheduled appointments for patient services prior to hospital discharge
  • Responds to patient and caregivers' inquiries related to routine and sensitive topics always in a compassionate and respectful manner
  • Generates, reviews, and analyzes patient data reports and follows up on issues and inconsistencies as necessary
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of specific registration requirements for all areas, including but not limited to: Main Admitting, OP Registration, ED Registration, Maternity, and Rehabilitation units

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1+ years of customer service experience
  • Ability to work onsite at our Cobleskill, NY facility
  • Ability to work from 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday
  • Access to reliable transportation and a valid US driver's license
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older

  • 1+ years ofexperience in scheduling and authorizations
  • Healthcare experience and clinical knowledge

PLEASE NOTE The sign-on bonus is only available to external candidates. Candidates who are currently working for UnitedHealth Group, UnitedHealthcare or a related entity in a full time, part time or per diem basis ('Internal Candidates') are not eligible to receive a sign on bonus.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
