Job description

Job Summary:

Perform general patient access and registration duties in EPIC Practice Management, such as answering telephones, making appointments, processing referrals, maintaining provider templates and appointment schedules, verifying patient demographics and insurance coverage. Manage patient accounts by obtaining prior authorizations, processing work queue items to complete registration, and entering service capture data. Ensure compliance with Kaiser Permanente standards and billing requirements of various payors. Act as a liaison to Patient Financial Services and the Health Plan, communicating with external government payors and employers as needed. Work directly with patients on billing matters, providing fee estimates for Kaiser Permanente services. May perform cash collection and deposit duties. Demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills, adhering to HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements. May serve as the first point of contact for patients.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Patient Access and Registration: Answer phones, perform appointment scheduling, complete accurate patient registration including verification of demographics and payor coverage, perform check-in, check-out, admit, and discharge tasks, build and maintain appointment templates, verify MyGH setup, communicate with patients via multiple channels, and process internal and external referrals.
  2. General Account Management: Confirm and set up payor coverage, obtain prior authorization, process items in patient, claim edit, and charge review work queues, liaise with Patient Financial Services and the Health Plan, communicate with external government payors and employers, perform manual service capture and data entry, coordinate with Health Information Management Coding Specialists, apply billing guidelines, provide fee estimates, and assist patients with billing questions.
  3. Cash Collection and Depositing: Collect co-pays and cost shares, process refunds, perform daily cash reconciliation and reporting, close out daily tills, and prepare bank documentation for deposits.
  4. Customer Service: Adhere to Kaiser Permanente standards for behavior and appearance, demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills, treat customers with courtesy and respect, and serve as a guide for patients accessing Kaiser Permanente services.
