Job summary

Geisinger Primary Care Pottsville is seeking a regular full-time front desk specialist to provide frontline office support. You will greet and register patients, support check-out, and schedule future appointments as applicable.

Responsibilities include verifying demographics, communicating wait times, handling insurance responses, collecting payments, and coordinating follow-up care. This role requires strong clerical and customer service skills with a commitment to confidentiality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year related work experience preferred.
• Clerical, customer service, and confidentiality emphasis in duties.

Responsibilities

• Check in patients for appointments and verify demographics.
• Monitor patient wait times and communicate changes.
• Read and interpret insurance responses and assign primary/secondary/tertiary coverage.
• Obtain necessary legal and financial signatures and disclose privacy information.
• Explain financial obligations and collect fees at time of service.
• Complete required regulatory forms with patients.
• Schedule follow-up appointments including specialty/ancillary services.
• Process multi-channel messages regarding appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and complaints.
• Notify patients of anticipated financial responsibility and collect accordingly.
• Post cash as per department guidelines.
• Maintain HIPAA privacy and patient rights.
• Manage work queues to resolve accounts timely.
• Maintain productivity and quality performance; protect confidentiality.
• Maintain medical records and releases.
• Assist with referrals and pre-certifications at point of encounter.
• Use and maintain recall and reschedule lists.

Job Summary:

Responsible for front line support to the department. Coordinates and performs front line office activities in an effective and efficient manner for the department. Greets and registers incoming patients, supports the patient check out process and schedules future appointments as applicable.

Job Duties:

• Responsible for checking patients in for appointments and accurately verifying demographics.


• Assures all check-in procedures are completed and monitors patient wait times, communicating changes to the patient as necessary.


• Reads and interprets insurance responses.


• Understands general guidelines and insurance rank requirement to properly assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per encounter.


• Ensures patient receives necessary disclosure and privacy information, obtains necessary legal and financial signatures.


• Communicates financial obligations to patients and collects fees at time of service as appropriate.


• Communicates the purpose of and completes all necessary regulatory forms with patient.


• Completes patient’s visit by scheduling any necessary follow up appointments to include any specialty or ancillary services as possible.


• Processes multi-channel messages related to patient and/or physician requests regarding: appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and complaints.


• Notifies patient or guarantor of anticipated financial responsibility including copays, deductibles, or coinsurances and collects accordingly.


• Performs cash posting following department guidelines.


• Abides by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality and patient rights.


• Independently works work queues to ensure timely resolution of all accounts.


• Maintain productivity and quality performance expectations


• Must maintain high regard for confidentiality.


• Accurately performs medical record maintenance and releases.


• Assists with referrals and pre-certifications, at the time of encounter.

Position Details:

• Hours: Rotating shifts are between 6:45 a.m. to 7:00 pm




• Weekends: Saturday/Sunday coverage for flu/cold season




• Travel: is required when needed to provide coverage at other clinics in region
