Wednesday and Friday - 6:30a-12:30p Wash Township Outpatient Admissions

Provides a positive patient experience to patients and families. Demonstrates strong communication and customer service skills while registering patients. Accurately searches and selects the correct patient. Gathers complete and accurate demographic and insurance information from patients and families. Identifies uninsured patients for referral to Medical Assistance/Charity Care evaluation. Retrieves orders, confirms medical necessity, and answers phones for outpatient visits. Gathers worker's comp or auto insurance information from accident patients, collects patient out-of-pocket liability/copays, verifies insurance, and confirms referrals and authorizations are on file, if required.

Job Description
Essential Functions:
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Gather accurate demographic information to identify Jefferson patients with existing medical record numbers or assign new ones.
  • Request photo ID and insurance cards, scanning copies.
  • Record complete and accurate demographic and insurance information. Enter orders and confirm medical necessity for outpatient visits. Interview patients to complete the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSPQ) questionnaire for all Medicare patients.
  • Use RTE (Real Time Eligibility), Phreesia, or payer websites to verify patients' insurance coverage, benefits, and out-of-pocket liability. Ensure proper referral and authorizations are on file as needed.
  • Complete all activities in adherence to departmental and institutional protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Achieve individual and team performance metrics.
  • Communicate and collect out-of-pocket liability from patients at the time of service.
  • Rotate assignment across all points of service within Patient Access (Outpatient Registration and Emergency Department).
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
  • Proficient with computer and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent customer service skills; ability to utilize practices, tools, and techniques for effective communication.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
Minimum Education and Experience:

Education: Required High School Diploma or GED; an Associate's degree in healthcare or business administration is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years in customer service roles, preferably in insurance, physician's/medical office, or hospital registration.
