Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced healthcare front desk professional to welcome patients, register and verify insurance, collect copays and route to the appropriate department. You will handle switchboard duties, assist with emergencies, and maintain accurate on-call documentation in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 1–3 years of customer service, administrative and/or data entry experience required.
• 1–3 years of experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
• Experience with database software applications desired.
• Medical terminology and healthcare business office experience would be helpful.

Responsibilities

• Welcome all patients and visitors with a smile and provide a positive first impression.
• Process pre-registration or registration for all patient types.
• Scan insurance cards and interpret insurance responses.
• Obtain appropriate signatures on forms.
• Direct or transport patients to the appropriate department or unit.
• Refer self-pay patients to a navigator to convert the patient to Medicaid or Health Exchange.
• Provide estimates to patients upon request.
• Collect patient copays according to guidelines.
• Operate the switchboard and handle public-address announcements.
• Handle emergency code situations, including overhead paging, in-house paging and contacting proper authorities.
• Forward mail to discharged patients.
• Receive, record and relay messages for doctors participating in the Physicians' answering service.
• Contact other physicians as needed by hospital personnel.
• Utilize the Diagnotes on-call system by logging documentation in Notes.
• Maintain special instructions and on-call schedules.
• Notify supervisors of changes or problems requiring updates to Diagnotes, the operators phone book or code guidelines.
• Relay or post information in appropriate locations.
