Job Description
- Job Summary: Provides day-to-day support to Patient Access Representatives, acting as a subject matter and technical expert. Ensures staff deliver a positive patient experience and demonstrates effective communication and customer service skills when interacting with staff, patients, families, and leadership. Responsible for training and educating staff on entering complete and accurate orders, demographic and insurance information, including authorizations, referrals, and medical necessity. Ensures staff compliance with departmental and institutional protocols, including communicating and collecting out-of-pocket liabilities from patients.
- Essential Functions:
- Interact with co-workers, visitors, and staff in alignment with Jefferson's values.
- Ensure timely, efficient, and accurate registration processes. Stay current on insurance tip sheets and workflow updates.
- Ensure regulatory and compliance requirements are met, adhering to departmental and institutional protocols.
- Distribute work assignments daily.
- Perform quality assurance on registrations, provide feedback, coach, and track performance for improvement.
- Backfill for staff during breaks and cover absences as needed.
- Maintain a professional demeanor, fostering positive interactions with patients, families, coworkers, clinical staff, and leadership.
- Train new hires on accurate recording of orders, demographic, and insurance information, providing real-time coaching on workflow changes or errors.
- Achieve individual and team performance metrics.
- Interact with a diverse patient base, maintaining departmental standards for wait times.
- Rotate assignments across all points of service within Patient Access.
- Competencies: Knowledge of patient registration, insurance coverage, authorizations/referrals, benefits, and coverage requirements. Proficient in computer skills, Microsoft Office, and familiar with healthcare EHR systems like EPIC and Cerner. Strong communication, coaching, and customer service skills.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in patient registration.
