Job Description

• Provides support to Patient Access Representatives, acting as a subject matter expert. Ensures staff deliver a positive patient experience and demonstrate effective communication and customer service skills. Trains and educates staff on entering complete and accurate orders, demographic and insurance information, authorizations, referrals, and medical necessity. Ensures staff compliance with protocols, including communicating and collecting out-of-pocket liabilities from patients.

Essential Functions

• Ensures timely, efficient, and accurate registration processes, keeping current on insurance updates and workflow changes.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and departmental protocols.
• Distributes work assignments and performs quality assurance on registrations, providing feedback and coaching for performance improvement.
• Backfills for staff during breaks and absences, demonstrating professionalism and fostering positive interactions.
• Trains new hires on registration procedures, providing real-time coaching and feedback.
• Achieves individual and team performance metrics.
• Interacts with diverse patient populations, maintaining departmental standards for wait times.
• Rotates assignments across all points of service within Patient Access, including Outpatient Registration and Emergency Department.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of patient registration, insurance coverage, benefits, authorizations, and coverage requirements.
• Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, and healthcare EHR applications such as EPIC or Cerner.
• Ability to provide constructive feedback and coaching.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Education

High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience

Minimum of 3 years of patient registration experience.
