Overview

Now hiring a Patient Financial Advocate - Admitting.

This role involves performing financial screening on hospital, Pre-registration, ER, and outpatient accounts. The candidate should have thorough knowledge of assistance programs including Financial Assistance applications, Medicaid (PEMOSSA), and other resources, along with full competency in Presbyterian policies for payment plans. An in-depth understanding of benefits administration of PHS contracts and their network arrangements is required. The role also involves pre-billing/pre-adjudication of claims to identify patient out-of-pocket expenses, understanding billing methodologies across Presbyterian affiliates, and counseling patients regarding financial responsibilities. The ability to research disputed accounts and escalate unresolved issues is essential. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to Presbyterian’s Mission by modeling CARES Behaviors and providing excellent customer service, acting as a resource and advocate for patients.

Ideal Candidate

Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare billing and collections preferred
  • Significant provider and patient interaction experience
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to Presbyterian’s Mission and CARES behaviors
  • Knowledge of medical practice operations and healthcare policies like the Affordable Care Act
  • Ability to interpret data and understand billing methodologies for integrated systems
Responsibilities
Customer Service and Caring Practices
  • Ensure an exceptional patient experience using CARES, AIDET, and EPE tools
  • Resolve complaints promptly and appropriately manage conflicts
Encounter Components
  • Calculate patient out-of-pocket expenses
  • Adjust workflow to alert registration staff of residual amounts
  • Set payment expectations and establish payment plans
  • Ensure registration accuracy and correct errors
Financial Accountabilities
  • Collect patient obligations and residual balances
  • Refer patients to Financial Advocates or Financial Advocacy Center as needed
  • Follow cash handling policies and stay current on financial policies
Medical Record Components
  • Document patient discussions and outcomes
  • Respond to patient distress and ensure safety and cleanliness of the registration area
  • Complete annual competencies and attend meetings
