Job summary

Logan Health in Montana is seeking a patient access specialist to support registration, scheduling, and financial clearance in a fast-paced clinical setting. You will verify insurance, collect payments, and guide patients through benefits while maintaining accurate records.

Collaborating with clinical staff, you’ll ensure correct data entry, prompt service, and compliance with pre-employment screening and equal opportunity policies.

Qualifications

  • Related coursework beyond high school or experience in a complex administrative support position required.
  • Experience in registration, financial clearance or patient financial services with strong working knowledge of healthcare insurance and benefit programs preferred.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience in a customer service focus position required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical coding preferred.
  • Patient Access (scheduling, registration, financial clearance), insurance verification, billing or certified medical assistant experience preferred.
  • Microsoft Office Suite working knowledge and ability to learn other software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes and completes registrations based on patients' acuity level.
  • Interviews patient or family to gather demographic, insurance and/or visit specific information and verifies data from previous visits or pre-registration.
  • Launches insurance verification software to verify eligibility and benefits; communicates out-of-pocket liability as appropriate.
  • Collects and processes payment for current service and any previous balances.
  • Identifies and refers self-pay patients to financial counseling per department procedure.
  • Maintains knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and third‑party payer requirements and current accepted plans.
  • Proactively communicates issues involving customer service and process improvements to leadership.
  • Meets productivity and quality requirements and takes ownership of work to ensure excellent service.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge to identify insurance plans correctly in systems and understands contract requirements.
  • Provides administrative services to support effective and efficient operations to assigned area(s).
  • The above essential functions are representative of major duties; other duties may be assigned.
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance as scheduled.
