Job summary

Duluth Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to assist with instruction, safety, transportation, food service and related needs for a student, under supervision of a special education teacher.

The position is 24 hours/week, Monday–Thursday, 9:15am–3:45pm, located at the District-wide program. Requires a high school diploma and eligibility for ParaPro assessment or equivalent credits.

Qualifications

  • Must have valid high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 60 college credits or 90 quarter credits or passing ParaPro assessment.
  • Experience as teacher's aide or related childcare work is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist special education students with instruction, safety, transportation, food service and related needs.
  • Support school staff and maintain confidentiality and proper behavior management.
  • Document observations and participate in student activities as directed by the supervising teacher.

Summary:

Duluth Public Schools is seeking an individual to assist special education students, frequently one student, with instruction, food service, transportation, safety, behavior, community activities, and related issues.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience as a teacher's assistant in a teaching environment in or outside a school system or related childcare work
  • 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits of college ora passing score on the ParaPro Assessment
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Ability to work cooperatively with children and adults
  • Ability to effectively communicate with, and establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, staff and community
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to observe and record accurately
  • Ability to understand and accurately correct student assignments
  • Ability to meet federal/state guidelines (where appropriate) and/or to successfully complete specified in-service courses
  • Demonstrated ability to work positively with students with disabilities and under the supervision of a special educationteacher
Additional Information:
  • The position will end when the student changes schools, graduates or leaves ISD 709
