Job Description:Provides technical support for the multiple disciplines in Anatomic Pathology by maintaining maximum efficiency and uninterrupted workflow of the laboratory. Caregivers working in anatomic pathology departments may handle and dispose of hazardous materials, such as formalin.Pathology Technician I maintains accurate identification of specimens throughout the laboratory process. In addition to accessioning cases, these caregivers are responsible for recognizing and resolving accessioning and billing errors.Path Tech I develop a greater skill level, they may actively participate in developing and revising laboratory procedures and take on training roles specific to assigned job skills. Caregivers in this role may perform other duties, as assigned by site.Skills:PathologyAnatomic PathologyHistologyMedical LaboratoriesLaboratory TechnologyMedical Laboratory TechnologyBiologyBiological SciencesChemistrySciencesMinimum Qualifications:Associate degree in chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution, or 60 semester hours or equivalent (as verified by Quality Assurance Manager or Director), including 24 semester hours of science courses that included 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination.Preferred Qualifications:Previous Pathology or Histology experiencePhysical Requirements:Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.Location:Central LaboratoryWork City:MurrayWork State:UtahScheduled Weekly Hours:0The hourly range for this position is listed below.
