Texas Children’s Hospital is seeking a Pathology Patient Care Technician II to perform phlebotomy for inpatients and outpatients and to order and process specimens in the laboratory. This role operates in a fast-paced pediatric care environment.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of phlebotomist experience, with a focus on accurate sample handling and patient-friendly interactions. This is a hospital-based, on-site position.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with patients and parents to perform phlebotomy procedures following age-appropriate care.
  • Performs venipuncture, fingerstick, and heel stick phlebotomy procedures including blood cultures, newborn screens, etc.
  • Greets parents and patients promptly and courteously, values customers and gives full attention.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the procedures and equipment; maintains skills and competency via performance and supervision.
  • Performs and participates in proficiency testing programs to validate competency as required.
  • Documents events in the event tracker and documents findings; investigates circumstances around events.
  • Directs workflow and staff breaks to ensure work is processed within the established turn-around time.

Responsibilities
  • Interacts with patients and parents to perform phlebotomy procedures following protocols for age-appropriate care
  • Performs venipuncture, fingerstick, and heel stick phlebotomy procedures including blood cultures, newborn screens, dxylose and glucose tolerances, etc. as written in the Central Receiving and Processing manual
  • Greets parents and patients promptly and courteously, values customers and gives customer full attention
  • Demonstrates theoretical and practical knowledge of the procedures and equipment; maintains skills and demonstrates competency via performance, documentation, and observation by supervisory staff
  • Performs and participates in proficiency testing programs to validate competency as required
