Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a laboratory support professional to assist in specimen accessioning and processing in the Rhode Island Hospital system. The role includes handling a variety of specimens, assisting technologists, and maintaining records and safety standards.

Responsibilities include logging, accurate data entry, temperature checks, and supporting billing processes while ensuring confidentiality and adherence to SOPs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma with some biology/chemistry coursework.
• Experience or ability to provide patient care considering aging and developmental stages.
• General knowledge of lab tests and handling specimens across sections.
• Strong organizational and clerical skills to maintain logs and records.
• Ability to operate a personal computer and communicate with staff and physicians.

Responsibilities

• Receive and accession specimens with correct demographic matching.
• Check specimens for integrity and suitability for testing.
• Process diverse samples (blood, urine, stool, body fluids).
• Determine aliquots and distribute to appropriate lab sections.
• Log specimens, track temperatures, and manage supplies and equipment."
• Perform basic waived tests and maintain log sheets and billing data.
• Respond to telephone inquiries and assist with lab-related issues.
• Ensure confidentiality and safety per SOPs and quality controls.
• Keep work areas clean and report equipment problems to supervisor.
