Premier Medical Group of the Hudson Valley in Poughkeepsie, NY, is seeking a Pathology Laboratory Assistant to provide administrative support in the laboratory related to specimens and slides.

You will accession specimens, enter data in LIS, handle IHC requests, prepare slides, organize archives, and assist with QA processes. This non-exempt, onsite role requires strong organization and communication, with typical 30-40 hours weekly and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum education of a HS Diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively; data entry and computer proficiency required.
• Proficiency in Medical Terminology; related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receives and accession pathology specimens into LIS.
• Scans specimen grossing information into LIS.
• Handles special requests for IHC staining.
• Receives shipments of returned slides and prepares them for weekly QA.
• Files slides and paperwork; prepares/labels Cytology and Histology slides daily.
• Assists in scraping histology blocks; prepares cases for second opinions and follows up on returns.
• Troubleshoots calls regarding patient specimen status and triages/faxs reports as needed.
• Generates accession logs; organises block and slide archives; unpacks supplies.
• Charges the processor weekly; performs urine dipsticks.
• Other duties as assigned.
