Job summary

Capital Health is seeking a Pathology Assistant to assist pathologists in examination, dissection, and processing of tissues under supervision. The role includes gross autopsy dissection and coordinating specimen-related activities within a full-time position.

The candidate should have a B.S. in biological sciences or related field (or B.A. with relevant certifications) and at least two years of pathology experience; NAACLS training is preferred. Excellent communication and empathy are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor in Science Degree in biological sciences, allied health sciences or related field or Bachelor's in Arts Degree with relevant certifications or experience.
• Two years previous experience as Pathology Assistant required. NAACLS approved training preferred.
• Graduate of NAACLS-certified Pathology Assistant program preferred.
• Possesses analytical skills to collect information and summarize data to solve problems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and empathy in interpersonal situations.

Responsibilities

• Assures appropriate specimen accessioning and obtaining clinical history, including scans and laboratory data.
• Describes gross anatomic features, dissects surgical specimens, and prepares tissues for histologic processing.
• Obtains biological specimens for studies such as flow cytometry, image analysis, immunohistochemistry, and other studies.
• Participates in gross and microscopic specimen photography.
• Maintains pathology reports, data, and protocols and coordinates conferences.
