Job summary

Saint Alphonsus Boise is seeking a Pathology Assistant to support anatomic pathology, including autopsy and surgical pathology, under the direction of a licensed pathologist. The role involves preparing and examining surgical specimens, assisting in postmortem examinations, and ensuring accurate documentation and specimen handling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in health science or a related field is required.
• 1 year of Pathology Assistant training in an accredited program is required.
• Experience as a Pathologist's Assistant is required.
• Membership in the American Association of Pathologist's Assistants preferred.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Neonate, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric as applicable).
• Ensures the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to patients.
• Performs or assists in human postmortem examinations, frozen sections and FNAs.
• Correctly obtains appropriate tissue and/or fluid analysis.
• Ensures proper restoration of the body for acceptable release to the funeral director.
• Describes gross appearance, performs complete dissection, selects and submits tissue sections for microscopic examination.

Education

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in health science or a related field

1 year of Pathology Assistant training in an accredited program

Experience as a Pathologist's Assistant

Membership in the American Association of Pathologist's Assistants preferred
