Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The role emphasizes complex surgical pathology, meaningful autonomy, and close collaboration with pathologists and residents in an academic setting.

You will work with subspecialty pathologists, residents, histology staff, and lab leadership in a busy academic environment, supporting education and quality initiatives while handling a broad case mix.

Qualifications

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and sampling of a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section, working with pathologists during time-sensitive decisions.
• Photograph and document gross specimens and ensure accurate orientation, sampling and submission.
• Teach and mentor pathology residents and other learners, with potential for academic promotion.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff, operating room personnel, and leadership to improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, validation, education and other departmental initiatives.

• Serve as a resource for difficult or unusual specimens and contribute to consistent, high-quality grossing practices.
• Teach and mentor pathology residents and other learners in gross examination, dissection, specimen handling, and surgical pathology technique.
• Work collaboratively with pathologists, residents, histology staff, operating room personnel, and laboratory leadership to continuously improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, validation, education, and other departmental initiatives according to your interests and experience.

This is an opportunity for a Pathologists' Assistant who enjoys complex and diverse surgical pathology, meaningful professional autonomy, close collaboration with pathologists and residents, and an active role in education and laboratory practice.

Our Pathologists' Assistants are integral members of the surgical pathology team. You will work alongside subspecialty pathologists, pathology residents, histology professionals, and other laboratory staff in a busy academic environment with a broad and challenging case mix.

What We're Looking For:

• Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm or 8:30am-5:00pm
