Job summary

Tufts Medicine is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to support diagnostic and clinical testing in a lab setting. You will assist in preparation, examination, and preservation of specimens under supervision of a pathologist, and participate in autopsies and research.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in pathology or related biology and ASCP certification within six months. Preferred candidates may have a Master’s in pathology and prior pathology experience.

Qualifications

  • ASCP Pathologist's Assistant certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Master's degree in Pathology or related biological science (preferred).
  • Experience in Pathology (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, gross (exam with the naked eye), and dissect surgical and autopsy specimens.
  • Assist with forensic, medicolegal, and hospital autopsies.
  • Summarize patient medical records and prepare autopsy reports.
  • Prepare tissue for pathological examination and testing, including photography of specimens.
  • Complete surgical pathology protocol reports and data, file reports, photographic and microscopic slides, specimen coding and billing code entry.
  • Perform proper maintenance of equipment, obtain provision of adequate supplies, clean the surgical pathology suite.
  • Instruct pathology residents/fellows, pathologists' assistant students, and other pathology lab personnel.
  • Participate in research.
  • Procure samples for biospecimen banking.

Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Pathology or related biological science.
  2. Certified Pathologist's Assistant from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required within six (6) months of hire.

Physical Requirements:
  1. Work requires standing or walking for up to half of the day and lifting or pushing of weights up to 200 pounds.
  2. Frequent exposure to human waste, and noxious gases and odors.
  3. Exposure to infectious materials and dangerous bacterial and viral agents. Exposure to fumes which may cause minor illnesses.
  4. Contact with physicians, house staff, funeral homes, and other hospitals.

Pay Range : $101,084.26 - $128,878.21 based on full-time equivalent
