Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health in Plymouth, MA is seeking a Pathologists’ Assistant to perform gross examination, dissection, and submission of specimens for histologic evaluation in the Histology Laboratory.

Under supervision of a board-certified Anatomic Pathologist, you will describe and dissect surgical tissues, prepare specimens for testing, photograph gross specimens, and assist with frozen sections. A PA (ASCP) certification or eligibility is required or in process.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
• Successful completion of NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program.
• PA (ASCP) eligible or certified.
• Able to communicate effectively with laboratory personnel and pathologists.

Responsibilities

• Gross description and dissection of surgical tissues.
• Submission and preparation of specimens for histologic testing.
• Gross specimen photography.
• Process frozen sections and touch preparations for rapid interpretation.
• Training of new employees within scope of practice.
• Technical review and writing of procedures with the AP Manager.
• Maintain equipment and work area; ensure clean environment.
• Attend relevant meetings and conferences.

There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch.
