Job summary

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth is seeking a Per Diem Histology Technician to join our pathology team. You will prepare, process, embed, cut, stain and mount tissue specimens for evaluation by pathologists, and perform special stains including IHC with quality control.

You will accession specimens, assist with cytology prep, and participate in frozen sections while supporting training for new staff. Strong safety practices and accurate recordkeeping are essential.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma required; AS degree preferred.
• HT(ASCP) certification or relevant Bachelor's degree.
• Pathology lab experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, process, embed, cut, coverslip, stain and mount tissue specimens for pathology evaluation.
• Perform Special staining including IHC and quality control on slides.
• Accession specimens in the LIS and communicate with providers on specimen issues.
• Prepare GYN and Non-GYN cytology specimens and order molecular studies.
• Perform frozen sections as required and train new staff/interns.
• Maintain equipment, records and ensure safe handling of samples and chemicals.
• Attend meetings and uphold department safety and cleanliness.

Degree preferredRegistration/Certification:HT(ASCP) certified or Bachelor's degree (meeting CAP HT minimums for credit distribution) with pathology lab experience and successful completion of histology test at time of interview andSuccessful completion of histology certification within 18 months of hire.Physical/Environmental RequirementsThis job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.Pay Range:$28.90 - $54.80This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
