Responsibilities
  • Assist in the receipt, preparation, and examination of surgical tissue specimens and autopsies, ensuring proper logging, processing, and disposal.
  • Perform human surgical specimen dissection and gross description, obtaining clinical history, lab data, x-rays, and scans as needed.
  • Coordinate and perform gross descriptions and dissections of surgical and autopsy specimens; supervise clinical staff involved in grossing.
  • Assist with frozen section activities, including freezing, cutting, staining, and slide preparation.
  • Participate in human postmortem examinations, including dissection, sampling, and dictation of findings.
  • Gather data and prepare reports on turnaround times and data analysis.
  • Train and instruct residents and surgical fellows on processing large specimens.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science with at least 5 years of experience as a Pathologist Assistant or a Bachelor's/Master's degree in a Pathology Assistant program with no experience.
  • ASCP certification as a Pathologists Assistant preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of surgical grossing and autopsy experience.
