Job summary

Sonic Healthcare USA is seeking a Pathologist Assistant for a hospital-based anatomic pathology role in Las Vegas, NV. You will perform gross descriptions, dissections, and tissue handling for histologic examination, including frozen sections, in a fast-paced laboratory.

The position requires a Bachelor of Science or Master’s Pathologist Assistant program from an NCCLS-accredited institution, 1 year of grossing experience, and ASCP BOC certification. Safety and quality are essential in this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or Master of Science Pathologist Assistant program from an NCCLS accredited institution.
• 1 year of laboratory experience grossing all tissue types from simple to complex.
• Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists BOC.
• Strong reading, writing, and analytical skills.
• Ability to operate general laboratory equipment including telephones, computers, automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, manual and automated pipettes, and audible alarms.

Responsibilities

• Perform a vital part of the patient care process through preparation, gross description, and dissection of human tissue surgical specimens.
• Recognize when corrective action is needed and implement effective solutions.
• Work in a fast-paced laboratory environment with biological and chemical hazards.
• Champion safety, compliance, and quality control.

This hospital-based role, under the general direction of the Medical Director, assists in all aspects of anatomic pathology. Responsibilities include describing, grossing, and processing a wide range of surgical specimen types and levels of complexity for histologic examination, including frozen sections and rare autopsy cases.
