Job summary

Greensboro Pathology LLC, a Sonic Healthcare USA partner, is seeking a Pathologists Assistant to support surgical pathology services. Under the supervision of a Pathologist, you will gross, dissect, and prepare specimens, document findings, and assist with autopsies as needed.

Willingness to adhere to CAP, CLIA, HIPAA and OSHA regulations is essential. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in laboratory science or equivalent, ASCP BOC certification, and completion of an accredited Pathologists

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Laboratory Science or equivalent required.
• State licensure, if applicable, may be required by state regulations.
• BOC certification by ASCP often preferred/required.
• Completion of an ASCP-accredited Pathologists Assistant program is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists in surgical pathology under supervision of a Pathologist.
• Performs grossing, dissection, and labeling of surgical specimens.
• Dictates gross findings and refers tissue for microscopic review.
• Maintains records of dissections and reports for surgical pathology.
• Coordinates specimens and records for special histology procedures.
• Ensures confidentiality and compliance with CAP, CLIA, HIPAA and OSHA.
• Assists with autopsies as needed under supervision.

Check out our job openings and advance your career with a company that values its team members!Assists in the performance of surgical pathology services and may assist in the performance of autopsies under the general supervision of a Pathologist.Essential Key Responsibilities:Maintains effective laboratory operations by adhering to standards of specimen collection, preparation, or laboratory safety.Documents specimens by verifying patient and specimen identification.Assists Pathologists in the preparation, grossing, and dissection of surgical specimens.Examines and prepares surgical pathology specimens.Selects and identifies tissue for microscopic study.Triages specimens received from surgery, dictates gross findings on selected specimen using appropriate terminology, and refers tissue sections for microscopic review by Pathologist.Maintains records of surgical pathology specimen dissections and dictation and assists in the compilation of reports for surgical pathology.Labels and stores gross tissue specimen.Photographs specimen samples as appropriate for use in instruction and documentation.Maintains and coordinates specimen and records for specialized procedures using appropriate protocols and submits requests for special histologic procedures and special stains, when appropriate.Assists Pathologist with eviscerations and gross anatomic dissections.Removes or may remove organs, portions of bone, or other samples of tissues for any specialized study or research.Collects or may collect special materials for toxicological, viral, and bacteriological assays and performs special procedures for tumor triage, coronary artery perfusion, and faxitron.Maintains records, maintains laboratory, labels, and stores gross tissue obtained during autopsy.Monitors and orders supplies.Maintains strictest confidentiality.Complies with all State, Federal, professional regulations as well as company and departmental rules, polices, and procedural manuals.Adherence to CAP, CLIA, State Regulations, HIPAA, Safety and OSHA Regulations.Performs other duties as assigned.Education/Licensure/Certification:Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Laboratory Science or equivalent under the 1988 Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines of high complexity testing.State licensure, if applicable.Board of Certification (BOC) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).Experience:Completion of a Pathologists Assistant program accredited by the American Society for Clinical Pathology. 1 year of practical Laboratory experience preferred.Scheduled Weekly Hours:40Work Shift:Job Category:PathologyCompany:Greensboro Pathology LLCSonic Healthcare USA is an equal opportunity employer that celebrates diversity and is committed to an inclusive workplace for all employees.
