Patent Prosecution Associate - Intellectual Property

We are seeking a proactive and talented Patent Prosecution Associate to join our Intellectual Property Practice Group in an innovative AmLaw150 firm. This position focuses on drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the mechanical, electrical, and/or software fields. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic environment that champions diversity and offers vast opportunities for professional growth in supporting the needs of our widespread clients.

Salary: $250,000.00 - $400,000.00 per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications in the mechanical, electrical, and software fields both in the U.S. and internationally.
  • Collaborate closely with inventors to draft clear and effective patent applications.
  • Communicate with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and other applicable regulatory bodies regarding the patent filing and prosecution process.
  • Advise and communicate with clients on various aspects of the patent application process, including potential risks and strategies.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes and developments in the IP law landscape.
  • Contribute to the firm's initiatives of fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace culture.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Holder of a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials.
  • Admission to a state bar is mandatory.
  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is required.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in an AmLaw150 firm or equivalent.
  • Expertise in international patent prosecution.
  • Technical background in mechanical, electrical, or software engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • History of building rapport with clients and colleagues.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
