Patent Prosecution Associate - Intellectual Property

We are seeking a Patent Prosecution Associate to join our Intellectual Property Practice Group at an AmLaw150 firm, focused on fostering a dynamic and inclusive workplace. This role offers the opportunity to work on stimulating intellectual property cases involving mechanical, electrical, and software technologies. Ideal candidates will possess a strong technical background and proficiency in managing US and international patent portfolios, ensuring our diverse client base can fully leverage their innovations globally.

Salary: $250,000.00 - $400,000.00 per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft and prosecute US and international patent applications in mechanical, electrical, and software technologies.
  • Collaborate with inventors to understand new inventions and draft patent applications reflecting the unique aspects of each invention.
  • Conduct prior art searches to assess patentability and identify potential patent infringement risks.
  • Liaise with patent examiners and address any issues regarding patent applications to optimize the prospects of application acceptance.
  • Provide strategic IP counsel to clients regarding the management and development of their IP portfolios.
  • Participate in client meetings, offering insights into IP strategy and aligning legal advice with client business goals.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • JD from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials.
  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution in technologies related to mechanical, electrical, or software fields.
  • Admission to a state bar and ideally registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Proven track record of managing significant IP portfolios for clients across different industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team to meet client needs.
  • Exceptional analytical, writing, and communication skills to effectively advocate client positions and provide reliable counsel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an AmLaw 200 or similar noteworthy law firm environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in managing smaller teams or leading projects.
  • Technical degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields is highly desirable.
  • Experience with international patent laws and proceedings.
  • Proven ability to innovate and think creatively about complex legal matters.
  • Strong client management skills with a focus on delivering outstanding customer service.
