Job summary

Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig’s Washington, D.C. office is expanding its IP group and seeking experienced patent attorneys to join a national platform with autonomy to build a focused practice.

The role emphasizes leading and growing an IP book of business in a collegial, entrepreneurial environment. Candidates should have 8–10 years of patent experience, a degree in electrical engineering or related field, USPTO registration, and an established portable client base.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of patent prosecution and/or IP counseling experience.
• Degree in electrical engineering or closely related discipline (computer engineering, physics) with depth in semiconductors, telecom, signal processing, power systems, or embedded/software.
• Registration to practice before the USPTO and an established, portable book of business.

Responsibilities

• Help build and lead the Washington, DC IP practice within a national platform.
• Cross-sell across DBL's practice areas and shape the direction of the DC group.
• Manage client relationships and originate/bill work to grow revenue.

Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig, a national law firm, is expanding its Washington, D.C. intellectual property group. We are seeking experienced patent attorneys who want the reach of a national platform with the collegiality and autonomy of a focused practice group. Our D.C. office is in the heart of Penn Quarter, between Pennsylvania Avenue and Capital One Arena. It is steps from Metro and surrounded by some of the city's best restaurants, museums, and cultural destinations.

What we're looking for:

• 8–10 years of patent prosecution and/or IP counseling experience
• A degree in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline (computer engineering, physics), with technical depth in areas such as semiconductors, telecommunications, signal processing, power systems, or embedded and software technologies is preferred
• Registration to practice before the USPTO
• An established, portable book of business

Compensation Structure & Disclosures:

Job Type: W-2 Employment

Projected Earning Range: $125,000— $250,000+ per year (Good-faith performance-based range for a book of $250 -450k)

This is a 100% commission basis with no fixed base salary. As a DBL Partner, your earnings are tied entirely to generated revenue (originating, managing, and billed work), featuring performance incentives.
