Job summary

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) seeks qualified individuals for Patent Examiner (Computer Science) roles, applying OPM education and experience standards.

Multiple entry points exist (GS-7, GS-9, GS-11) based on education and experience, with continued evaluation of technical inventions and standards. The position supports the examination of technology-related patents, leveraging graduate-level coursework and/or professional experience to assess claims, gather data, and prepare

Qualifications

• A) Bachelor's degree in computer science; OR
• B) Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in mathematics, statistics, and computer science; at least 15 hours must include calculus
• All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
• GS-7 qualifications: A, B, C, or D options listed (graduate education, superior academic achievement, specialized experience, or combined education/experience) to qualify.
• GS-9 qualifications: A, B, C, or D options listed (graduate education, specialized experience interpreting scientific principles, or combined education/experience) to qualify.
• GS-11 qualifications: A, B, or C options listed (Ph.D. or substantial graduate-level education with relevant experience) to qualify.

Bachelor's degree in computer science

Graduate-level education in computer science or related field (master's level)
