Job description

Join to apply for the Patent Agent/Advisor (Medtech) role at Cooley LLP.

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual with substantive industry experience, at least one year of law firm experience, and a degree in mechanical, chemical, or biomedical engineering (or a related field) to join our busy patent counseling & prosecution practice.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Conducting prior art database searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
  2. Analyzing patent and scientific papers and documents to assist patent attorneys on patent prosecution, counseling, and litigation.
  3. Drafting patent applications and responses to office actions.

Requirements:

  • Superb technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Broad scientific knowledge in mechanical engineering and/or biomedical engineering; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • Must be a registered US patent agent or eligible to sit for the USPTO registration exam and meet other registration requirements.
  • Individual must possess initiative, be a fast learner, and work well with others.
