Job summary

Orthoassociates is seeking a Medical Assistant for Pre Admission Testing in Portland, Maine. The PAT MA will screen patients preoperatively, obtain histories, perform phlebotomy, and coordinate required clearances for surgery.

Strong communication with surgical teams and patients is essential. Responsibilities include documenting in EMR, educating patients on preoperative instructions, and ensuring timely completion of all prerequisites for procedures.

Qualifications

• Current State of Maine LPN or MA program completion with 1–2 years MA clinical experience in a physician practice.
• CMA or RMA credentialing and BLS certification required.
• Experience in preoperative, surgical or ambulatory care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Preoperative Screening & Review: Detailed medical history intake, including prior anesthesia history and patient concerns; escalate risks to licensed staff.
• Patient Education: Review pre-surgical instructions, NPO guidelines, medication holds and day-of-surgery logistics.
• Care Coordination: Verify preoperative clearances and documentation; follow up on missing items.
• Phlebotomy & Testing: Perform phlebotomy and ensure proper labeling and processing of labs.
• Surgical Preparation Support: Communicate arrival times and ensure completion of preoperative requirements; collaborate with PAT team.
