Job summary

Starbucks Reserve Kitchen in Chicago is seeking a pastry lead to oversee production of pastries, desserts, and artisanal breads in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. You will supervise the pastry team, manage inventory, and ensure HACCP compliance while supporting production planning.

You will apply your baking expertise, attention to detail, and leadership to deliver consistent quality across Reserve Kitchen offerings, with growth opportunities and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years baking and pastry in a professional kitchen.
  • 1+ year experience supervising a team of 5+ employees in a commercial setting.
  • Current Health Code Certification (per State and Local DOH requirements).
  • Current ServSafe Certification (preferred).
  • Ability to work on your feet for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares a wide variety of pastries and desserts according to prescribed recipes and/or supervises the preparation of these items.
  • Supervises the pastry team in the organization and execution of timely food preparation.
  • Supervises other Reserve Kitchen partners in the absence of a manager.
  • Ensures the team meets its' commit to track and log production and HACCP logs.
  • Facilitates an accurate production schedule to ensure orders are fulfilled.
  • Receive and manage ingredients and supplies; report defective inventory and equipment to manager.

This position contributes to Reserve Kitchen’s success by performing a variety of baking duties in the preparation of quick breads, cakes, tarts, fillings, muffins, cookies, pies, and other desserts and pastries among others as assigned.

In addition to production, this position supervises pastry cooks and supports the management of inventory, training, production planning, and scheduling in a high-volume, fast-paced environment while ensuring compliance with quality and sanitation requirements.

Partner must model and act in accordance with Starbucks principles and company policies.

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
  • Prepares a wide variety of pastries and desserts according to prescribed recipes and/or supervises the preparation of these items according to prescribed recipes.
  • Supervises the pastry team in the organization and execution of timely food preparation.
  • Supervises other Reserve Kitchen partners in the absence of a manager
  • Ensures the team meets its' commitment to track and log production and HACCP logs[CZ1.1]
  • May support the Production Manager with hiring and training activities as needed
  • Facilitates an accurate production schedule to ensure orders are fulfilled
  • Receive and manage ingredients and supplies: report defective or inadequate inventory and equipment to manager
  • Places orders as needed and assigned by their leader
  • Support with weekly inventory counts and recording of daily production
  • Performs other duties as assigned by their leader in support of the kitchen
We would love to hear from people with:
  • 3+ years baking and pastry in a professional kitchen
  • 1+ year experience supervising a team of 5+ employees in a commercial setting
  • Current Health Code Certification (per State and Local DOH requirements)
  • Proven attention to detail
  • Current Servsafe Certification (preferred)
  • Ability to work on your feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry 35lbs on a consistent basis and up to 55lbs occasionally
  • Ability to adhere to strict personal hygiene and standards of dress consistent with policy
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently
  • Data entry; Basic working knowledge of computers
  • Basic math and English skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Competent Inventory Management skills
